India overtakes China in private debt AUM

Private debt in APAC has nearly doubled in the five years leading to September 2023. growing from $62.5bn in AUM to $123.5bn.
India now leads APAC in private debt AUM, surpassing Greater China in December 2022, and is the most attractive emerging market for global investors across all asset classes, according to Preqin’s investor surveys. However, APAC-based investors diverge from their global counterparts, favoring Southeast Asia over India when it comes to private debt. Their understanding of the diverse APAC market, regional regulations, and investment mandates contribute to this preference.
